Monday, September 29, 2008   |   Engagements

jenny & ian

Well, one good thing about the 16.5 hour airport experience yesterday is that I was able to complete process Jenny and Ian's engagement session from start to finish! I worked several hours at the airport Outback Steakhouse as we sat and watched football, and then I finished on the long plane ride to Cali! We had a lot of fun shooting at the IMA. Ian brought a pretty cool hat too for some of the photos. This is Ian's band look, so it was only appropriate for him to include it at the shoot! Ian's band recently got the opportunity to play at the Playboy Mansion and open for Ludicris! I am a HUGE fan of The Girls Next Door, and Holly was the one that introduced the band! How cool is that??!! (Holly is Hef's girlfriend)!!

I cannot wait to see what this couple has in store for their April wedding. It's going to be in the butterfly exhibit at the Zoo! Oh, and Jenny's got a pretty cool hobby herself. She does amazing cake work, and she's also doing THEIR wedding cake! Checkout Parker's Flour Patch here! I can't wait to take pictures of it!

Meet Ian and Jenny...

laguna beach!

As I mentioned earlier today, we had the worst experience at the airport yesterday. We were supposed to arrive in Laguna Beach at 10:30am yesterday morning, and instead we didn't get here until 7pm last night. I guess looking back on the circus of events that took place yesterday, we're lucky to have even GOT here at all yesterday. We were supposed to leave Indy, fly to Cincinnati, and then go directly to the Orange County airport. Everything ran smoothly until we were on the plane in Cincy about to take off for the O.C., and then the pilot cam over the speaker and told us there would be a small delay due to some sensor that lit up during final inspections. Well, that "short delay" turned into a 3.5 hour delay only for us to learn that the flight would eventually be cancelled at 3pm. So think about this...it's a Sunday and we're in CINCINNATI of all places. NOT many options to get to Orange County from there. So, we had to fly to Chicago instead, switch airlines, and then fly American Airlines from there to O.C. We got to the ticket desk in Chicago to check-in, and the attendant said "I'm sorry, you don't have a reservation on this flight." WHAT!!! The Delta guy had supposedly booked the Chicago and O.C. flights for us, so I'm not sure how that could've happened. Luckily, he was able to book us right then and there, but we had to sit apart from each other and both in middle seats. Oh well. We got here and so did our luggage. Not sure how, but we're here.

We're here with our friends, Colin and Penny (Penny designed my logo and blog header!!). Today we walked around Laguna looking in shops and art galleries. We also hit the Crystal Cove Shake Shack for some ice cream! Colin snapped these two photos of us at the Shake Shack! I'm so excited to have a couple of new photos of us. We NEVER have our picture taken.

That's all for now. I'm sure I'll post more photos later!

Thursday, September 25, 2008   |   Kids & Families

avery, gracie & samantha

I always enjoy my time with the Homan's! These little ones are pretty well known on this website since I work with them every 3 months! This technically was Avery's 9 month shoot, but we always snap lots of each of the kids. I always get compliments on "those girls with the white curly hair." I've even had a couple of people ask if they were twins. No, they aren't twins, but they are pretty close in age--18 months apart. I am starting to notice that Avery's hair is bleachy blond too, and I wonder if he's going to have the same locks as his two older sisters! The few little hairs on top of his head are starting to curl up, but I guess I can't tell if that's just the curls that babies usually get, or if that's the start of the family hairdo!

Jenny emailed me about a week ago to see if I had any ideas on outfits. She knew she wanted an urban look, but asked for my opinion on wardrobe. I told her that the Matilda Jane line of girls clothing would pretty much rock in this type of setting, but I knew it was hard to get ahold of it since you have to know a trunk salesperson. I was first introduced to this line by Angela who dressed her girls in these dresses during our Spring shoot. When Jenny read my email, she was so surprised because that's exactly what she wanted! She had emailed Matilda Jane 3 times prior and didn't have any luck reaching them. After my email though, she dug around to find a trunk salesperson and this time hit the jackpot. It did require express shipment, but the girls had on matching dresses for the shoot!

I don't think you can tell from the shots below, but we only shot for about 25-30 minutes...TOPS. I think the kids were all tired and hungry, but they really turned on the charm for the short amount of time that we were working!

Meet the star of the show, Avery!

Avery is SUCH a great baby. I never hear a peep out of him! He'll be walking soon too, so our next shoot will be really fun!

My NEW FAVORITE family photo! This is also getting my vote for the favorite from this post! This would look great on a canvas! Andy and Jenny are great parents and are always very patient and understanding with their 3 little ones!

Andy and Jenny, thanks so much! It was short and sweet, but I hope you're as happy with the photos as I am! I love working with you guys! See you in three months (unless I catch you at some Colts games between now and then)! Enjoy your slideshow! Show the Homan's some love by laving a comment or by voting on your favorite image!

Oh, and I found a new song for their slideshow! I caught the previews that they're running right now for the season premier of "Ugly Betty" (which is TONIGHT!!) and the song they were playing in the background made me look up from my computer. Luckily, they put little credits down in the corner to let you know what song was playing!! I IMMEDIATELY wrote it down and knew I'd use it for my next slideshow! You can always see what songs I'm using by taking your cursor over the little music note icon below the slideshow. In this case, it's Lenka singing "The Show."
